RAC Subcommittees

The Research Advisory Committee has charged several more focused subcommittees with tackling issues of importance to research and education. Initially, these topics have come from the concerns expressed by faculty in the Ad Hoc Faculty Science Review Committee report. These committees will report back to the Dean for Research and Graduate Education and the Research Advisory Committee . Each committee is tasked with advising the RAC on how to maximize our research and training capabilities in these key areas how to leverage existing resources and invest new resources going forward. These committees will also provide faculty oversight and accountability to ensure that institutional investments made match our research priorities. Faculty across the Division are invited to contact these committees and their members to share ideas and concerns.


Graduate Education Committee
Dr. Victoria Prince, Associate Dean and Director, Office of Graduate Affairs and Co-chair of the Research Advisory Committee, is pleased to announce the formation of a faculty Graduate Education Committee.

The Graduate Education Committee has been formed. This group will act as an advisory board to Dr. Victoria Prince, Associate Dean and Director, Office of Graduate Affairs and Co-chair of the Research Advisory Committee, as she leads Graduate Affairs in the BSD and report back to the RAC. These members have been selected from a wide range of graduate programs in the BSD and represent all of the clusters. They were selected for both their training and leadership experience. Faculty across the Division are encouraged to contact this group or members of this group directly with concerns or issues related to graduate education.

The Subcommittee on budget is currently focused on reviewing existing budgets with an eye towards better understanding our ongoing investments in research and education.

Research Resources Oversight Committee (RROC)
The BSD's Research Resources Oversight Committee (RROC), a subcommittee of the Dean's Research Advisory Committee, is a faculty oversight committee that will provide scientific and financial oversight of all BSD cores, as well as provide for long-term strategic planning of core services and resources. The RROC will interact directly with faculty, as well as the Director of the Office of Shared Research Facilities, Core Faculty Directors, and Core Technical Directors to achieve its goals.

RROC would have oversight roles in three key areas:

  1. Administrative, including regular reviews of individual cores and core services, and Core Advisory Committee (CAC) activities
  2. Financial, including oversight of fee and billing structure, and resource allocation, e.g., prioritization of expenditures on the capital budget
  3. Strategic planning, including the identification of the needs for new services and technologies, coordination of "big ticket" purchases (within the BSD/UCMC and with local institutions), and development of new cores
