Education

The full spectrum of education provided by the Division of the Biological Sciences - collegiate, graduate, medical, and postgraduate - is characterized by a passionate commitment to rigorous scholarship and interdisciplinary effort.

Our consolidated campus, fully integrated within the entire University, enables basic science and clinical faculty to teach undergraduates as well as graduate and medical students. Our commitment to interdisciplinary efforts makes us unique in the sheer number of joint degree options available to students, from traditional MD/PhD combinations in the medical and biological sciences to a joint MD/JD with the Law School, an MD/MBA with the Graduate School of Business, and even MD/PhD options in the Social Sciences (for example, economics or public policy). Graduate students enjoy the same joint degree opportunities.

The commitment to interdisciplinary effort also spawns unique partnerships. One such example is a graduate training partnership with the Howard Hughes Medical Institute's Janelia Farm Research Campus. Access to this very select training program is available only through BSD/Pritzker School of Medicine in the US and Cambridge University in the UK. Another is an industry partnership with nearby Abbott Laboratories, which enables undergraduate, graduate, medical and postdoctoral trainees direct exposure to pharmaceutical careers through Abbott-funded internships, scholarships, and fellowships.
